The grey skies set the mood for today as this is a day of mourning.
I woke at 5:30am and brought my mother to the airport after a month long visit. Saying goodbye – or, better yet, see you soon, never gets easier. I think of how lucky a lot of you are who are able to follow your dreams, career paths, life goals or whatever it may be while living near your families. I have always envied people who grew up in a place they loved, wanted to be and that had a future for them.
With my goals in life, living in my small rural town or even in my country, just isn’t possible. As someone who has been away since the age of 17, I can’t stress enough, for those who have the possibility to be close to their loved ones, cherish every minute. We don’t know what will happen an hour or a week from now and each and every second you get to spend with your family is a priceless memory and connection not everyone has the chance to keep.
